The event for the Unfuck The World Day festivities in Los Angeles is falling into place; the event will take place at the Bootleg Theater on Beverly Blvd., a 1930′s warehouse-turned-theater that offers the perfect layout and vibe for what we envision. Six bands and performers are confirmed, and inspirational people like Ron Finley (watch his talk on TED here), Sylvia Alvarado of Brian’s Orchard, Kat Green of Laundry Love, Kris Nameth of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Homeless Youth Center, Mike Shuttleworth of Fuck Cancer and others are lined up to represent their good causes.

We are happy to announce that we have teamed up with L.A. based company ShockBoxTV! Their main goal is to support and promote independent music artists and non-profit events in greater Los Angeles that make a difference every day in the lives of those in need; they will be filming the event and do interviews with performers, representatives and guests.

Unfuck The World Day is dedicated to all the people who are awakening, who get up, go out and make this world a better place, every day.

THE FACTS

When: Saturday, June 8, 2013

Where: in your living room or at a pub, on a beach, in your backyard, on a rooftop …

What: a party bringing together friends, neighbors, local musicians, anybody whose goal it is to make this world a better place

Why: to have fun, spread hope, promote the Unfuck The World movement and collect donations for a local homeless shelter or foster home of your choice

Guidelines: • every guest is asked to bring an item (canned food, clothing, toys, personal hygiene products) that will be donated to a local homeless shelter or foster home • you agree to wear an Unfuck The World t-shirt (we will send you a free shirt prior to the party) and hand out free stickers to your guests (also provided by us) • you agree to take photos and/or video clips of yourself and of your guests showing the stickers, and post those pictures and videos on Unfuck The World’s FB Page on June 8.

Unfuck The World started in 2006 as a fun t-shirt project in Los Angeles, and has since grown into a global movement aimed at inspiring people to take action and make positive changes in their communities.

“This year, I have finally taken the plunge and am going to start growing food on my property. I’ve been slowly learning to garden over the years, but have always had some apprehension about trying to grow “real” plants – not decorative, but useful.

After 2 years of successful herb gardening, this year I bought grains and veggies and edible plants and plants to be used for green manure, as our mountain soil is nutrient poor. I’m still scared, but I bought a few books and I can fall back on the internet to answer any scary problems I may come across. Taking this step has made it easier to take another, and another, all leading to homesteading in the future.

Some day, we will live off-grid, subsisting on only food we ourselves have produced, organically and with heritage breeds and heirloom seeds. Our little corner of the world is getting less fucked by the day ”

“Will Work for Empty Wallets is a mixture of a social cause with a creative vision; this visual art exhibit is dedicated to the millions of unemployed citizens and veterans in the United States.

Constructed out of 1,284 used, empty wallets from over 2,000 donated nationwide, this project aims to have a voice about the economic problems our country is facing and show the potential of art to awaken our social consciousness.

If we can build an American flag out of used donated wallets, we should be able to build a new economy using the resources at our fingertips.”

Fine artist Milena Matic from Oregon is the one who came up with this brilliant idea to help us finance the events in London, Reykjavik, Brisbane and Los Angeles.

Milena sent us three of her beautiful, vibrant pieces and gave us the okay to sell them to use the profits towards Unfuck The World Day.

Milena also suggested we should create a FB Group, so it would become easier to reach out to the art community amongst our followers.

Out of my own pocket, and what other resources I can scrape together I am building my own machine shop so I can build a new type of automotive engine. Basically I want to ‘marry’ steam power to hydraulic drive systems and have a Dodge Ram 50 4wd pickup truck that can burn ANYTHING that is LIQUID, GASEOUS and FLAMMABLE with a clean, or at least a BIODEGRADABLE exhaust.Practically anything that will burn for fuel, carbon dioxide exhaust (MONOXIDE IS THE DANGER, NOT DIOXIDE!) and a long and reliable service life. A couple of weeks ago, we met up with Kim Nameth, Program Manager at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Homeless Youth Center here in Hollywood, California, to get a tour of the facility on Highland Boulevard, and we were very impressed with what we saw!

Much thought and care went into the design and layout of the rooms, and the center offers anything one could hope for: in addition to serving warm meals three times a day, it provides smaller and larger sleeping quarters with one to five bunk beds, clean showers, a selection of clothes for daily use as well as for occasions like job interviews. A large number of computers is available, some in the ‘lounge’ area, others in the ‘quiet’ room that is used only for studying. In addition to all these, the center provides medical care and help with education and job search.

We were more than thrilled when Kim called us a few days later after discussing the idea with the other members of the team, to tell us they’d love to work with Unfuck The World!

As you already know, we are working with partners in London/UK, Brisbane/Australia, Los Angeles/USA and we are also trying to organize an event in Reykjavik/Iceland for Unfuck The World Day 2013.

UTW Day in London will take place at Cargo, a cool venue in Shepherd’s Bush. Bands and artists are already lined up, and we will release names soon. Any profits made at this event will benefit WaterAid UK.

In Brisbane we will celebrate Unfuck The World Day at Solbar, a venue only steps away from the Pacific beach, where Sea Shepherd, the non-profit benefitting from our profits made in Australia, will be holding an afternoon event in honor of World Oceans Day (which happens to fall on the same day as UTW Day). What a nice way to lead up to our evening activities …

We are beginning to reach out to bands and musicians around the globe, and soon we will be  accepting their video submissions in support of Unfuck The World Day to be added to our YouTube channel.

No sleep til Unfuck The World Day …

“I’m an avid health nut, determined to change the world, and this country, from being one of the sickest in the world, to one of the healthiest.

A young artist from Appleton, Wisconsin named  Scott Wong  sent us one of his signature pieces, suggesting we could sell it and use the money towards Unfuck The World Day.

Artist Milena Matic from Vancouver, Washington, took the idea one step further: not only is she working on a special piece for UTW Day, but she also made us create a Facebook Event called Donate Your Art To Support Unfuck The World, so she can easily reach out to the artists in her circle of friends to ask them for help.

And my awesome acupuncturist here in Los Angeles, Dr. Jung Kim, donated a treatment package for us to auction of to raise money for Unfuck The World Day!

I am blown away by all the support, monetary, in-kind and spiritually… there doesn’t seem to be anybody out there who doesn’t believe in Unfuck The World. Thank you!

Ron didn’t stop there. Instead, he founded L.A. Green Grounds with the goal to change wastelands all over South L.A. into edible gardens.

Word got around; Ron is now getting messages from people from all around the globe asking him to teach them how to start a garden in their communities.

We went to visit Ron last weekend, when he and a bunch of volunteers were busy creating an edible garden on an empty lot across the street from L.A. landmark, Watts Towers.

“I have recently written a book with the title UNFUCK THE WORLD. It’s a book of small texts and poems that indicate the social political situation in the world and how it affects the people and especially the new generations.  I have a long background in politics as well as a technocrat. I have studied in New York – MBA-NYIT and BSc in Marketing-Management-City University of New York.
The purpose of the book is to fight the system which causes poverty in the world, to awake people’s minds and reinforce action towards people who suffer. It’s written in Greek but I can traslate it to English. It’s becoming very popular in Greece…”

“I’m helping the world become less fucked by working for a cause that I love for free. Two years ago, I heard about a thing called the ‘Decentralized Dance Party.’ It took a really simple idea- a bunch of boomboxes tuned in to a radio transmitter backpack, blasting great tunes and taken to the streets- and made it reality. These guys have so far been able to crowdfund 52 amazing, all inclusive parties that (safely) have danced through the streets of major cities in the US and Canada. It is amazing to see the diversity of people who show up for these things. These parties have nothing to sell, no corporate backing, no goal, no need for drugs or alcohol. It is enough to be happy and together. It can be easy for some to dismiss this idea, saying that partying is escaping the problem of how fucked this world is rather than addressing it. I think that this world is fucked precisely because we aren’t getting together like this enough. There aren’t enough times when you get to be a part of something grand that you are proud and eager to contribute to, and there aren’t enough times when diverse people are exposed to each other in a happy, prejudice-neutralizing setting. Many people know how to make their own happiness and create loving communities around them, but it is harder for others, and so the party must be brought to them. That’s what these guys do.

People want to be happy, and they want to connect with other people. Happy, connected people have no reason to want to fuck the world, and if they are fucking the world, happy, connected people are stable enough to want to change that. DDPs allow the greatest diversity of people possible to come together, get happy, and get connected. So that, in a nutshell, is why I’ve been helping these guys out remotely over the past few months in any way I can. Currently I’m coordinating efforts fund their world tour (AKA The Global Party Pandemic) to bring this connected, happy feeling to as many countries as possible. I want to see people partying in Germany, Australia, Japan, and all the countries with ‘stan in them. I especially want to see people partying in the countries that are dealing with strife and unrest. They definitely need some happiness and connection over there, and I would much prefer to see them partying (something I can help happen) than shooting at each other on the evening news.

So yeah, check out the video, and you’ll see what motivated a 21 year old from the Midwest to reach out and help this thing go global.
